PIH Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN), BSN to join our team at PIH Health Downey Hospital (PHDH), located in Downey, California. Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN), BSN provides comprehensive, direct nursing care to assigned patients within the acute care hospital setting. This role encompasses the full scope of professional nursing practice, including thorough patient assessment, development and implementation of individualized plans of care, patient and family education, and ongoing evaluation of patient outcomes. The RN also performs patient care duties necessary to maintain the efficient flow of patient care and actively coordinates the delivery of care provided by other care team members and interdisciplinary disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
The RN, BSN will be responsible for conducting thorough and systematic patient assessments upon admission and throughout the continuum of care, identifying actual and potential health problems, and formulating individualized nursing care plans that address the physical, emotional, and educational needs of each patient and their family. The nurse will implement evidence-based nursing interventions, administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and established protocols, and continuously monitor and evaluate patient responses to care, adjusting plans as necessary to achieve optimal outcomes.
The RN will serve as a primary point of coordination among the interdisciplinary care team, communicating effectively with physicians, therapists, social workers, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless, high-quality care delivery. The nurse will provide comprehensive patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, discharge instructions, and community resources, utilizing principles of adult learning and health literacy to promote understanding and self-management.
Additionally, the RN, BSN will demonstrate leadership abilities by mentoring and guiding less experienced nursing staff, contributing to a positive and collaborative unit culture, and participating in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and continuing education activities. The nurse will maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient care activities in the electronic health record system, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and professional nursing practice guidelines.
Work Environment and Schedule:
This position is based at PIH Health Downey Hospital and is classified as a full-time, regular/at-will role. The position does not include per diem arrangements. The RN will work within a dynamic, fast-paced acute care hospital environment that demands clinical expertise, critical thinking, compassionate communication, and a strong commitment to patient safety and quality outcomes.
Compensation:
This is an hourly-compensated position. Specific compensation details will be discussed during the recruitment process and will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and applicable collective bargaining agreements or hospital compensation structures.

Required Experience
- Current, valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the California Board of Registered Nursing
- Evidence of ongoing continuing education relevant to nursing practice and specialty area
- Prior experience in an acute care facility or equivalent formal clinical education in an acute care setting
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or equivalent accredited organization
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or equivalent accredited organization
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of professional nursing experience, preferably in an acute care hospital environment
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited four-year college or university program
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing individualized patient care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
- Experience providing patient and family education across diverse populations with varying health literacy levels
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) documentation systems and clinical technology used in acute care settings
