The Preoperative Readiness Center Clerk works under general supervision to support front office operations while coordinating referrals, authorizations, scheduling, and preoperative readiness activities for surgical and procedural patients.
The position verifies insurance eligibility, obtains authorizations, coordinates required testing and medical clearances, and communicates with patients and care teams to ensure completion of preoperative requirements. This role helps ensure patients are optimized and prepared for surgery, supports efficient clinic workflow, and maintains accurate documentation in electronic systems.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of computerized practice management systems and electronic health record systems
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Excellent telephone management and customer service skills
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills
• Ability to meet time-sensitive requirements related to patient care and surgical scheduling
• Ability to independently identify and solve problems
• Strong interpersonal communication and liaison skills
• Detail-oriented with strong follow-through


Required Experience

Required:
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Minimum two years experience in a medical office, clinic, or hospital setting
• Knowledge of insurance verification, referral processes, and authorization requirements
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to maintain composure & balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
• Experience in surgical scheduling, preoperative coordination, or referral management
• Knowledge of commonly ordered diagnostic tests and preoperative clearance requirements
• Bilingual skills preferred
